Flower Power

Hi Everyone!

We had a lovely weekend here in Florida; hope you all did as well.

On Saturday, we walked the dogs to the vet to get Mojo weighed in like they do on the "The Biggest Loser." If you recall, about a month ago, we were told to put her on a diet, and she needed to lose a few pounds to get into the proper range for her flea medication.

She lost...(drumroll, please)...5 and a half pounds, which is a lot for a little dog! Atta way, Mo! She still should lose about 5 more, but I was very proud of her success. Apparently, there are not a lot of calories in lizards.

Does she look skinnier to you?
On our walk to the vet, Glenn peeped over one of our neighbors' fences to see one of their horses. It's nice that we have a little farm on the edge of our housing plan.

Pretty!
There is also an extended family of ducks in the pond in our plan - three males, one female and about 6 little ducklings. Glenn took a pic but was too far away and it is all blurry. We'll try again another day.

Later that day, Glenn and I drove to nearby Largo to go to the Florida Botanical Gardens.

It is huge and it is free to get in. Such a lovely place.

Nice, right? So also on the same property, they have a place called Heritage Village, where they brought all these buildings from the 1800's from all over Pinellas County and put them in one place.

This place saved my life, because they sold Coke (in the glass bottles), and I was dying of thirst.

Whew! As if all that wasn't enough, Saturday night, we drove over to Dunedin to have dinner at Casa Tina's and then walked down to the pier, where we spent a good bit of time watching this gentleman fish.

He also was kind enough to be in our selfie.

You'd think I'd be done now, right? But no! We haven't even told you about Sunday yet!

Sunday, we took the dogs to a nearby park where we discovered some great trails through the woods.

It was so hot. Later, we returned home for a swim. We've discovered Deuce doesn't mind swimming, he just doesn't like getting in, so we just toss him in now and he seems to enjoy himself.

Drying off in the sun.
Sunday night, we went to get pizza at the Mellow Mushroom. There is a giant tree outside of the place that we had seen kids climbing before, so we decided we wanted to try it.

(Note: there is a reason 40+ year olds don't climb trees. This was much harder than it looked and the lowest branches are much higher than they seem, and so wide, it is impossible to hold on to them. Glenn had to help me up and down.)

So anyway, that's it for this week.  Next post: Vegas! :-)

Sunset Over Clearwater

Hi Everyone!

It was a short week and Glenn had a few more days off, so we've had some nice time to spend together - mainly just spent hanging around on the lanai.

But Glenn did get a good bit of outdoor work done. He replaced all the plastic edging around our flowerbeds with stone and it came it looking quite nice.

And here's a pic of some fluffy clouds over our neighborhood.

You see, we are now in full-on summer here in Florida, which means we get a big thunderstorm every afternoon. The meteorologist on TV down here actually calls them "Thunderboomers" which I think makes him sound like a 5-year-old boy instead of a professional weatherman, but the term is rather apt.

So anyway, the highlight of our weekend was definitely our trip to Clearwater Beach on Saturday night. You'll see that it looked like we were definitely in for some thunderboomers, but it actually never did rain on us.

First we went to Crabby Bills for a delicious dinner.

And then past Pier 60, where the acrobatic show was in full swing.

And then down to the beach...

This is an ibis, but Glenn and I call them chickens.

And here you can see why I was afraid we might be in for some weather...

Seriously, it didn't rain on us!
So anyway, we found a nice spot in the sand and just sat there watching the sun go down for about a half hour or so. Glenn took 43,000 pictures, so we had to narrow them down a lot, but still, bear with me. It was gorgeous.

So now we think this sign actually may have merit.

Still can't believe we have access to all this on just a regular Saturday night. Life is good, my friends!

Hope you are all enjoying this lovely June! More to come...
